When Real Life and Second Life Collide

Seems in the new techno-world of the 21st century, fidelity isn't just limited to the real world...

Case in point, a British couple are divorcing after 3 years of marriage when the wife repeatedly caught her husband's Second Life avatar having sex with various women (including prostitutes).

My question... in the divorce settlement, who gets the computer?

The Lesser of Two Evils

Even though he serviced as the mayor of his Romanian village for over two decades, it was a bit of a surprise when Neculai Ivascu was recently re-elected to said same post. What made this re-election unusual was the fact that he was DEAD!

One voter was quoted: "I know he died, but I don't want change."

Sadly the opponent, the still-breathing Gheorghe Dobrescu, had to endure the humiliation of being mentioned in the article as the candidate who lost to a dead man.

"Bless me father for I am sinning..."

While the story of a couple getting caught having "relations" (wink, wink) in public might not be all that noteworthy, it does get more notice when said "public" turns out to be a church confessional box (in Rome no less) DURING mass... unconfirmed reports claim that fellow parishioners assumed the couple were merely "filled with the spirit" before being discovered.

The Long Good Night

Seems the McMurdo research base in Antarctica just received a shipment of over
16 thousand condoms, for a base that currently only has 125 people during the upcoming winter months.

While that might sound pretty impressive (that's 132 condoms per person), their winter night will last till Aug 20, so they've got the time, and hopefully the stamina. The sad part to this story is hidden in the math... with 125 people on base, that comes out to 62 couples and one odd man out... poor guy

Japanese Woman Comes Out of the Closet

Choose Your Own Preface:

1) The next time you hear a strange noise coming from your closet, you might want to double check before you dismiss it as just your imagination...

2) So you think your apartment is small!

Are You $#!%ing Me!

Seems like crazy news is on a roll, and I'm along for the ride.

Here's a BBC News article about... The Hitler Doll, on sale soon in a Ukrainian store near you!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/7362161.stm

At what point did this sound like a good idea. And what's next? Press a button and he does the Reich salute, or pull a string and he spews out hate and bigotry?

Strange but... Strange!

I know it's been a while since I've written, but I got a doozie this time...

Here's an article that makes Reuters look like The Midnight Star...

Seems like twins, given up for adoption at an early age married each other in England recently.

For me, all I could think about was the line from Eurotrip:
"They really are the worst twins ever!"

World's Largest TV

All I can say is... wow

http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSN0740737820080107?feedType=nl&feedName=ustechnology

ok...

1) so who has the room for a 150 inch tv?
2) what's the cost?
3) if I have to ask, I can't afford it
4) what's the cost of the juice to run this (again, see number 3 above)

"Let 'em eat cake"

I don't think this is what Marie Antoinette thought when she made her famous statement.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/01/07/cake.irpt/index.html

A life size wedding cake that looks like the bride... creepy! Especially when you think of the wedding tradition of keeping the top piece of the cake for a year and then eating it on the first anniversary of the wedding.

So next year do they eat her head?

No more words...

I guess Berlin had it right when Terri sang:
Remember when the words were new
They carried a meaning, a feeling so true
(from the song No More Words)

The following article lists this years winners for overused phrases, or "19 affronts to the English language":

As for next year, who knows what verbal "low hanging fruit" will "make the grade" or "fall through the cracks" :)

Wii-hab

From commercial to real life, it seems people are using the Wii for physical therapy.

I can hear it now... "will you START playing that video game!"

... A Little Scarier

This just in from the "World Just Got a Little Scarier" file:

all about a new strain of Ebola

http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSL2990582220071129?pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=0&sp=true

No offense, but I think the four strains we have are more than enough...

<old guy voice> I remember when there were only three strains of Ebola </old guy voice>

This is starting to feel like an iPod, with a new version coming out every year!

PA Ninjas

Hey, everyone knows about asian ninjas from all manner of tv, movies and books, but apparently Mr Miagi's been training more than just Daniel-son (and Julie -- bonus points if you know who Julie is)...

Apparently Richmond township (PA) lived through the onslaught of a horde of ninja recently. And by "horde" I mean 2, and by "ninja" I mean NINJA. In days of yore they would fight for coin and do the dark bidding of oriential lords (at least that's what we thought at the D&D table), but nowadays, it seems their goals are a bit more common... smokes, cash, and some scratchers. All I can say is... hum.

For more on the story... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09/25/ninja_blag/
